CITY OF SUNBRIGHT
EMERGENCY MEETING ON FRIDAY, JUNE 9,2023 6 P.M.
Present at Meeting: Mayor Karen Melton, Vice-Mayor Buddy Tharp,
Darryl Jennings (no longer an Alderman since he turned in his resignation due to
moving outside city limits), Steve and Betty Highland.
The Emergency Meeting was called to Order by Mayor Melton.
Discussed interest in City building a new City Office Building. The present building City uses is old and has no proper ventilation in ceiling or walls, dampness and mold has been a concern for years. The City would use the Insurance Monies from the Tornado Damage on April 1,2023 in lieu of the
hiring the one bidder to repair the roof only.
A motion was made by Vice Mayor Tharp to have P&L Construction repair the roof on City Hall that
was damaged by storm for $16,000, seconded by Mayor Melton, motion passed.
A motion by Vice-Mayor Tharp to proceed with the building of a new City Hall building and satellite police office will be included. (Satellite office severely damaged by storm) Mayor Melton seconded the motion, motion passed.
Vice-Mayor made a motion to advertise for bids for new building if legally required If City cannot build in-house and/or contractor. Funding will be from the Insurance Money received from storm damage.
A motion by Vice Mayor Tharp to hire Darryl Jennings as Project Manager for new build at eight (8) % of total project cost paying monthly as project progresses. The beginning date would be July 1, 2023.
The motion was seconded by Mayor Melton, and the motion passed.
Vice Mayor Tharp made a motion to adjourn the business meeting, seconded by Mayor Melton, meeting adjourned.
